Cannabis and Coronavirus

Coronavirus

COVID-19, also known as SARS-CoV-2 acute respiratory disease, is a viral infection caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2).
Known as the coronavirus, due to some glycoproteins present on the outer membrane of the virus, which, seen under a microscope, make it look like a crown.

It is a recent virus, of which many features are still unknown. The main symptoms are flu-like, with loss of taste / smell, gastrointestinal problems, high inflammatory response, up to more serious diseases such as acute respiratory syndromes, thrombosis, sepsis and multi-organ failure.

Trials of different therapies are underway, which aim both to eradicate the virus (antivirals, antimicrobials, antiseptics) or to prevent it (vaccines, antibodies), and to limit its undesirable effects (anti-inflammatory, anticoagulants).

Cannabis

Active ingredients, terpenes, methods of consumption

Cannabis contains more than 400 active ingredients, belonging to different classes, including cannabinoids, terpenes, polyphenols.
Each of these substances differs from the others in effects and mechanism of action.

In principle, cannabinoids share a relaxing and anti-inflammatory effect, terpenes an antiseptic, antifungal, antimicrobial action, polyphenols an antioxidant and support effect.

Fake news

First of all, we need to clarify one thing: cannabis is not the cure for Coronavirus.
Various fake news without scientific basis circulate on the web, including that the molecule to cure the coronavirus was CBD, or that, in based on unspecified studies, THCV would have completely eradicated the virus. None of this is true and, despite its many uses and beneficial effects, cannabis is not the panacea for all ills, so it is right to disprove the false reports that risk compromising public health.

In fact, the same IACM (International Association Cannabis Medica) wanted to reiterate with a dry statement that despite numerous laboratory studies indicate possible antiviral effects and antibacterial cannabinoids, there is no scientific evidence that protect against SARS-CoV2 virus infections or that can be used for effectively treat COVID-19.

It should also be remembered that internationally the advice not to pass the pipes as well as tools such as pipes or bongs has been passed, to prevent the spread of the virus. Also, it is best to avoid places like Dutch coffee shops or Spanish cannabis clubs, where it is not uncommon to find people who cough, precisely because they smoke. Among other things, for those who are positive for Coronavirus, smoking is an aggravating circumstance, because it helps to irritate the lung, making the situation worse.

Hemp as an ally

Hoax aside, it is equally important to emphasize the benefits that can be derived from the use of cannabis as an adjuvant, through vaporization or ingestion:

  • Some terpenes contained in it have mild antibacterial and antiviral properties, useful for decreasing / containing the infection;
  • Most cannabinoids have immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties, which can placate a excessive immune response, such as sepsis;
  • Several polyphenols have an antioxidant and thinning effect on the blood, limiting uncoordinated clotting and free radicals resulting from the stress of convalescence;

Hemp fabrics and masks

In addition to the usefulness of the active ingredients present in the flower, other parts of the cannabis plant can also be very useful at this time: the fiber, defined as “raffia” because it is obtained from the stem. Hemp is a very ancient crop, cultivated by man for over 10,000 years, and therefore the advantages of hemp fiber have long been known:

  • It is waterproof and therefore suitable to avoid the formation of microorganisms inside the fabric obtained;
  • It is biocompatible, biodegradable and eco-sustainable;
  • It is stable in the time even after multiple washes at high temperatures;
  • It has antibacterial and antifungal properties, both for the active ingredients contained, and for the high transpiration;
  • Some tests show how a mixture of hemp and viscose, unlike cotton and synthetics, has the ability to kill some bacteria on the surface and limit their spread, including staphylococcus (aureus and MRSA) and Klebsiella pneumoniae;
  • Absorbs infrared and UVA rays up to 95%, making it easily sterilizable;
  • Regulates body humidity and provides a sensation of coolness in summer and warmth in winter;
  • Cannabinoids present in the hemp fiber & nbsp; reduce cell bioavailability by increasing the impermeability of the membrane & nbsp; and cells themselves;

Hemp and hand sanitizer

Many studies are underway regarding the ability of some cannabinoids to cope with the methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacterium and reduce its attack on human skin.
A consequence of the research on these antibacterial properties is the possibility of making cosmetics and personal hygiene products free of preservatives and synthetic antibacterials, potentially harmful to the environment and to health. Milan is developing a new sanitizing gel that will be based on hemp and not on alcohol, but only the efficacy tests will be able to indicate its possible use. However, even without upsetting the sanitized devices already available in this way, the addition of some hemp-based ingredients would certainly bring valuable help.

What is the chemical hunger? Effects, mechanisms and suggestions

What is the chemical hunger?

The so-called chemical hunger or “munchies” is a sudden attack of insatiable and irrepressible appetite.

It is not physiological, but induced and resulting from the intake of certain triggering substances, for this reason it is called “chemical” hunger.

This is a very well known and common effect especially in the segment of the population that uses marijuana, and for this is also called “cannabis munchies” or “munchies effect” (effect snack).

Smoking cannabis (or derivatives) leads to craving for food very substantial and high-calorie, without being able to control themselves on quantity, even if on a full stomach and if lunch or dinner was a lot abundant.

Effect of the munchies

The feeling of appetite is also emphasized by an increased perception of aromas, as well as greater pleasure at the act of the tasting.

The rising the munchies can occur from half an hour to two hours after taking of the substance, with various nuances based on factors, such as: dose, type cannabis, THC content, habit, build, metabolism, age, gender.

The methods of intake are also crucial: in fact, by inhaling the fumes / vapors, there is a much faster, but also less lasting effect, with a consequent and timely perception of hunger. In case of ingestion, on the other hand, since it has a much slower and longer lasting effect, the appetite often occurs at the next meal, although obviously much more consistent.

Effects of cbd on the munchies

The marijuana light or cannabis light results in a much reduced munchies compared to cannabis with a high THC content (tetrahydrocannabinol), this is because CBD (cannabidiol) antagonizes some molecular targets, necessary to develop the typical sense of appetite.

Mechanism of action of the “munchies”

The & nbsp; THC, psychotropic substance of marijuana, is also the main culprit of the increase in the desire for food.

The brain is divided into regions; some areas control moods, while others they affect our appetite. These areas of our brain can induce us to eat more or to stop eating.

The system endocannabinoid is very archaic and complex, which is why it manages to modulate neuronal parts with very different functions.

As the research of the Neurocentre Magendie of Bordeaux, binding to the & nbsp; receptors & nbsp; CB1 (type 1 cannabinoids) of the olfactory bulb in the brain, THC appears improve our sensitivity to food aromas, making them more powerful and attractive. It also increases the production of dopamine, which triggers a pleasure greater following the perception of tastes, thus inducing us to eat of more

According to i researchers of the & nbsp; Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics , tetrahydrocannabinol also interacts with other hormones responsible for the sense of hunger, such as ghrelin, which it is normally generated in response to substances similar to those found in cannabis, but naturally produced by our body, they said “Endocannabinoids”.

Other research, from the university “Yale School of Medicine” of New Haven Connecticut, they also revealed how THC “tricks” the & nbsp; neurons & nbsp; of the & nbsp; proopiomelanocortin (Pomc), which under normal conditions induce a sense of satiety, stimulating, instead, to eat more when consuming marijuana.

CBD, on the other hand, blocks CB1 receptors, limiting the sense of hunger triggered by THC, which is still present, even if in small quantities, in light cannabis products.

Does the munchies make you fat?

Increasing the release of dopamine, involved in the reward and pleasure centers of the brain, a hardly controllable hunger is unleashed and this can lead to overweight and obesity problems.

It’s a myth unfounded the fact that binging during the munchies prevents assimilation of ingested nutrients.

A study published by the scientific journal “The American Journal of Medicine” suggests that cannabis consumption increases cellular metabolism, energy expenditure and insulin function, also preventing diabetes. However, this would be true in the case of a healthy and balanced diet, but it would not be enough to compensate for the high caloric intake resulting from such severe hunger pangs.

Therapeutic uses

As THC solicits nutritional receptors & nbsp; and causes us to eat more, different industries they mobilized to investigate the mechanism of action and find drugs able to block it, in order to then use them in the control of obesity.

However, the ability to stimulate hunger is very valuable, as different diseases cause an extreme loss of appetite, which reduces the quality of life and slows down the recovery.

The increase in appetite can be therapeutic in cases of people suffering from diseases, especially chronic, such as: ulcerative colitis, senile degeneration, anorexia, HIV and AIDS, some heart diseases, metabolic disorders, cancer and related adverse effects of radio / chemo-therapeutic treatments (nausea, vomiting, general malaise).

Tips from the editor

Know how resisting the munchies, allows to stem the unwanted effects, starting with the possible weight gain.

Go to smoking on a full stomach does not eliminate the problem of hunger chemistry, even if it partially reduces it or, at least, leads to ingesting one however less food than on an empty stomach.

It’s important divert attention from food, through & nbsp; alternative activities & nbsp; in able to positively occupy the mind, so as to reap all the benefits of the recreational effect, avoiding the binges that our body does not have need.

Carrying out physical activity, before or after taking cannabis, not only allows you to compensate for the calories consumed in case you succumb to the munchies, but, by resisting it, it would also take advantage of the positive effect of cannabinoids on cellular metabolism.

Follow a complete, varied and healthy diet throughout the day, inclusive of any snacks, it is certainly important in controlling glycemic peaks and the consequent feeling of hunger.

Whether to ingest food should prove to be an irresistible need, it is better to limit the effects negative effects on our body by opting for light snacks based on food mainly healthy (raw fruits and vegetables, proteins, fibers, carbohydrates slow-digesting complexes), compared to the so-called “junk food”, foods junk (high calories, sugars, saturated / hydrogenated fats, carbohydrates simple / refined).

Also chewing very slowly helps to ration the quantities of food better assumed, as hunger gradually diminishes over time.

Strive to drinking a large amount of water can help curb appetite, since gives an immediate feeling of fullness in the stomach, e it also prevents the typical dry mouth caused by THC.

That’s a lot It is important to learn to & nbsp; dominate the impulses that the brain emits in following the intake of cannabis: the munchies are not real and not represents an objective need, therefore & nbsp; controlling it can preserve the physical without compromising health.

Cannabis CBD Oil

What is cannabis light cbd oil?

The term “Cannabis oil” refers to any extract that occurs in an oily form, obtained from the genus of plants “Cannabis light sativa L.”.
Based on the type of extraction or the part of plant used, products with different organoleptic profiles and containing different active ingredients will be obtained.

Difference between hemp seed oil ed CBD oil

The first and most important distinction to be made is precisely between hemp seed oil and the so-called “CBD oil”.

Hemp seed oil

First of all, as the name implies, it is obtained exclusively from Cannabis Sativa seeds, by pressing or by solvent extraction.
This is a food grade and / or cosmetic oil, with significant quantities of acids unsaturated and polyunsaturated fats (omega-3 alpha-linolenic acid, omega 6 linoleic acid, omega 9 oleic acid, etc.), vitamins (A, B1, B2, B3, C, E) and various polyphenols, so that can boast various health effects.

CBD oil

Unlike hemp seed oil, this oil is instead obtained from an extraction of principles from legal light marijuana plants dissolved in an oily base, starting from raw materials such as: leaves, stems, resin and inflorescences.
What differentiates it from the previous oil is its high content in active ingredients, such as cannabidiol (CBD), other cannabinoids and aromatic substances (terpenes) practically absent (or present only in irrelevant traces) in simple seed oil.

Types of CBD oils

The characteristics that allow you to differentiate the various CBD oils on the market are many and here we will mention the main distinctions.

Type of raw material

  • from the inflorescences of medical cannabis (with a high content of THC) we obtain compound galenic preparations in the pharmacy (presenting the medical prescription), prescribed for various pathologies;
  • from the flowers of legal marijuana (cannabis light) extracts with different percentages of CBD and / or other cannabinoids are obtained, except THC, which, by law, must remain within 0.2%;
  • from the leaves and stems are they get extracts with fewer cannabinoids, but with higher levels of polyphenols and chlorophyll.

Extractive method

  • Solventless (without solvent), through mechanical methods that concentrate the active ingredients without exposing users to the possible risks of dangerous residues of the extraction solvents;
  • With food solvent, through the use, in fact, of safe substances for ingestion, such as ethanol and / or carbon dioxide;
  • With chemical solvents, much more selective for certain active ingredients, but with the risk of extraction residues if not properly purified , as in chromatographic extractions, etc.

Type of extract

  • Full Spectrum (full spectrum: uses an extraction method that preserves all the active ingredients (cannabinoids, terpenes, waxes, resins, polyphenols, chlorophyll);
  • Wide spectrum, which contains the greatest part of the active ingredients, with the exception of those deliberately removed (usually THC is the most excluded substance, to avoid possible legal problems)
  • Isolate, which separates only one active ingredient of interest, for the most part of cannabinoid cases such as CBD, CBN, CBG, etc.

Benefits of CBD oil and what type of oil choose

To be able to choose the type of oil that best suits your needs, it is necessary to evaluate the active ingredients contained.
Here is a list of cannabis-based oils on the market:

  • Oils with CBD isolate: to have the effect of CBD alone without the risk of being positive in specific anti-drug tests for THC;
  • Full Spectrum CBD oils “full spectrum”: they are more effective than the isolate, because they contain all the active ingredients of cannabis light. This leads to a high synergy, called the “entourage effect”. The most frequently encountered effects are: relaxing, antioxidant, alleviation of minor pains such as migraines, menstrual and muscle pain, muscle relaxant, antiepileptic;
  • “broad spectrum” CBD oils: they preserve most of the active ingredients full spectrum oil, except for the presence of thc.

How to use and adverse effects

It is very difficult to establish a dosage suitable for everyone for products based on Cannabis Sativa L. This is because the effect of cannabinoids is very complex and varies according to specific characteristics of each individual, such as: age, gender, body weight, metabolism, lifestyle and type of diet.
It is therefore always advisable to start with lower dosages, increasing (or decreasing) them weekly according to needs and effects found.

The most common dosages are:

  • 0.5 – 30 mg per day of CBD for mild effects of general well-being, anxiety, stress, nausea, menstrual pain and veterinary use;
  • 30 – 100 mg per day of CBD for inflammation, chronic pain, autism, Crohn’s disease;
  • 100 – 1100 mg per day of CBD, for epilepsy and also as a support in cancer states, and also for sclerosis and fibromyalgia.

The most common adverse effects (although rare, transient and which disappear after discontinuing use or changing the dosage) can be lethargy, fatigue, dizziness, nausea.

Where to buy CBD oil.

It is possible to find many legal cannabis cbd oils, even with different names, but not all of safe manufacture and certified origin.
To always demand the best, we recommend visiting our e-commerce of products based on of legal light marijuana , where you can also find the product that best suits your needs.

Turnover of cannabis light: how much is it worth?

The market: cannabis light business for 44 million a year

How much is the legal hemp market worth? It is a question that many have asked themselves and now we have numbers. The report of a research carried out by the Sorbonne indicates that the cannabis light business is around 44 million euros a year and creates 960 permanent jobs in our country. All this in a constantly expanding market.

The research was entrusted to Davide Fortin of the Sorbonne in Paris, researcher of the Marijuana Policy Group of Denver. The expert has also provided consultancy for many of the countries that are legalizing the hemp market, both with and without THC, the last case being that of Canada.

Grow shops continue to grow and open, investors follow the trend. The crops in Italy are growing numerically visibly. Having the production chain almost entirely in Italy, taxation seems to be able to bring a minimum figure of around 6 million euros into the state coffers, a considerable source of income for the common coffers of the country.

Regulatory importance

At the moment, the sector is moving into a regulatory situation that we have already told you about in several of our articles. The product is legally salable under any commercial license, as long as it has a THC content of less than 0.6%. Fortin’s report on cannabis light affairs is very encouraging for the money entering the tax authorities and for jobs, but it is also true that there is a need for regulations that better regulate the market. Traceability and labeling are just some of the issues on which legislators will have to intervene, as well as the intended use. In fact, remember that at the moment cannabis is sold as a technical and / or collectible product, not for consumption or combustion.

Cannabis light – Selling in vending machines

Cannabis light and vending machines

The presence on the national territory of shops dedicated to the sale of legal cannabis is no longer a novelty. These are being accompanied by sales entrusted to other realities, such as various types of public places (we talked about it here).
But is it possible to distribute light hemp in vending machines? The quick answer is yes, let’s see how and what the benefits are.

Why distribute legal cannabis in vending machines

There are some advantages in selling the product in automatic machines: first of all, discounted but not secondary, they are operational 24/7. The small space required and the low installation and maintenance costs make it a good investment for those who wants to enter the sector of the sale of products based on legal hemp.
The presence of an expert in the store, able to follow you in the purchase and advise you is obviously a value that is lacking, but it is offset by practical aspects of convenience linked to anonymity and speed of distribution, which make distributors a happy choice for many. clients.

Regulatory aspects of legal cannabis and vending machines

The law that regulates the sale of light hemp in Italy is always unique, that is the law 242 of 2 December 2016. This allows the sale of products with THC levels below the legal limits, without the need for specific licenses or permits. It is therefore salable with a normal commercial license and this establishes its saleability even in vending machines, although the hypothesis is not mentioned in a literal way.

Therefore, all the general rules that control the sale of legal cannabis in all its forms apply.

  • The products must be guaranteed and certified in compliance with the laws of the Italian State, therefore avoid products of dubious origin, entrusting yourself to those who, like us, deliver all the necessary documentation.
  • Legal cannabis is intended for an adult public, it will therefore be necessary, in the case of vending machines, to have one capable of certifying age by reading the health card chip.
  • Pay attention to the intended use: cannabis light is a product legally aimed at research and collecting, not for recreational use.

CBD – The main hemp cannabinoid

Discovering CBD, the “good” cannabinoid of the hemp plant

The hemp plant isn’t just THC. The most famous cannabinoid, tetrahydrocannabinol, known mainly for being a psychotropic substance is actually just one of the active ingredients present, alongside CBC, CBD, CBG and many others.
The flowering of the Cannabis Light market has made it possible to shift the spotlight on other cannobinoids and their health benefits, being a legal product and therefore with THC values within the legal limits.

The most famous of these active ingredients is cannabidiol, better known as CBD.
CBD is not psychoactive, therefore it does not create alterations in the person who consumes it, on the contrary, it is a principle known for its ability to limit the impact of THC, so much so that it is administered in the form of oil to those who are using high-content therapeutic cannabis. of THC (net of the problems we talked about here) to limit its impact.
The result? A relaxing and calming effect, without any highs.

Among the main effects of CBD we find those relaxing, anticonvulsant, antidistonic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory. In addition, it promotes sleep and is soothing against anxiety and panic.

The therapeutic capabilities of the active ingredient jumped to the headlines for the first time in 2013, with the case of Charlotte. It was a controversial case for the administration of oils with a high cannabidiol content to a 5-year-old girl; Charlotte was effectively treated in Colorado for Dravet syndrome, starting a process of strong experimentation and media exposure of the principle.

In addition to oil, CBD can be found in the inflorescences of light cannabis in many varieties, legally sold in Italy. The CBDCollection catalog contains the best of indoor and outdoor products and is constantly updated, to always provide products of the highest quality and perfectly legal.

Legalization of recreational marijuana in Canada

Legalization in canada is a historic decision

On June 19, 2018, the Canadian government approved the Cannabis Act, which is the law that will sanction the legalization of recreational marijuana in Canada.

With 52 votes in favor and 29 against, the Senate confirmed the favorable vote of the Chamber of Deputies (205 to 82).

In 2001, medical cannabis was legalized.

The measure was strongly desired and publicized by the Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, who thus wants to counter the illicit market for the product and regulate consumption, alienating minors.

The first estimates estimate the annual turnover that this market can produce at around 7 billion euros.

The news cannot leave you indifferent. Canada is in fact the second country in the world (after Uruguay) to legislate in this sense and is the only G7 member country to have done so.

The Canadian case has the potential to be an important forerunner for all policies related to the legalization of cannabis.

The whole nation will have its eyes on it from other industrialized countries.

In Colorado, an American state whose legislation had already been made, the data on income and consumption are very encouraging but now it is to be seen what will happen in an entire nation.

The law will allow you to purchase up to 30g of marijuana at a time and up to 4 plants for self-production.

How marketing will work

The sale will be regulated differently by the various Canadian states: in Alberta, for example, it will be available for purchase in licensed stores.

In Ontario, on the other hand, the sale will be managed directly by the state, which will provide for the opening of special stores.

Initially, derivative products, such as oils, will not be sold, but the possibility of using the product as you see fit remains at home.

Product prices have not yet been established, and will likely be one of the keys to the law’s success.

Setting very low prices could entice children to consume, while too high prices would end up losing the battle against the illegal market.

The move by the Justin Trudeau-led government has the potential to be a key moment for legalization in the world.

The trend for next year is therefore of great interest to investors, workers in the sector and enthusiasts.

Canadian management will also be carefully studied by other countries, especially those that have already initiated policies of openness towards marijuana.

As we know, however, in Italy the use of these substances is prohibited. But you can buy it for legal cannabis light.

Selling Cannabis Light – The legal rules

Cannabis Light for sale in public establishments

What says the law on the marketing of light cannabis in the premises

Once the tooth is removed, the pain is removed, let's start immediately by saying that the sale of light cannabis in commercial establishments is legal.

CBD-rich cannabis light is currently sold in many specialty stores. But what if we wanted to market it in a public place? Selling legal hemp in pubs, bars and shops is permission .
However, there are some important conditions to keep in mind so that the < / span> product offered for sale remains within the general legal requirements of hemp. The variants that can be sold must contain THC below the legal limit, which is 0.6% and must come from seeds certified and guaranteed by the manufacturer.

The only Italian law related to the marketing of cannabis is the 242 of 2016 which here you can find in the official gazette of the government and in fact, by accepting the production aimed at economic gain, accepts the sale, even with all the limitations listed above. With a simple commercial license you can start selling cannabis light in your exercises, but without sponsoring its recreational use, such as the choice of smoking it.

Italian medical cannabis – Legal situation and practical reality

Medical cannabis made in Italy

Between endless expectations and insufficient quantities, the world of medical cannabis in Italy

The scientific evidence on the medical effects of medical cannabis is becoming more and more numerous, despite the difficulties in carrying out medical research on a product that is considered illegal in many countries. The treatment of chronic pain, as well as the beneficial effects in the treatment of nausea in patients who are receiving chemotherapy treatments, are now well established benefits. To these are added many other diseases for which studies are still ongoing, with encouraging results. Anxiety disorders, increasing appetite in HIV patients, treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder and many others.

How is the medical cannabis situation in Italy?

The Consolidated Law on Drugs 309 of 1990 had sanctioned the possibility of cultivating therapeutic cannabis with authorizations in specific structures. This was followed by the possibility of importing drugs such as Bedrocan and Bediol in 2007. The first Italian production began in 2014, after an agreement between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Defense. The Military Pharmaceutical Chemical Plant of Florence has in fact started the cultivation of cannabis inflorescences for medical use.

The use of medical cannabis is intended for patients in the case of "chronic pain and that associated with multiple sclerosis as well as spinal cord injuries; nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy, radiotherapy, HIV therapies; as an appetite stimulant in cachexia, anorexia, loss of appetite in cancer or AIDS patients and in anorexia nervosa; the hypotensive effect in glaucoma; the reduction of involuntary body and facial movements in Gilles de la Tourette syndrome "as indicated in Ministerial Decree of 9 November 2015 .

What happens in practice for patients?

Although there are laws and decrees to regulate its use, medical cannabis remains a mirage for many patients. First of all, the request for the administration of medical cannabis is submitted only after the other treatments have failed. Prescriptions are therefore often very late. Soon after, there is another problem: medical cannabis is in short supply. The Italian production is around 100kg per year, absolutely insufficient for the numerous demands of the market. Many sufferers are thus forced to turn to other products, such as Cannabis Light, or to self-production or to the dealing market, thus falling into illegality.

The quantities produced and imported are established by the Ministry of Health which, however, makes too conservative choices. In 2018, 500kg of direct production and purchases from abroad are estimated, very few due to the growing demands in our country.
